Updates from the website, chat view

Updates now come straight from the PaneScale website, and Claude Code, Codex and Kimi panes can switch to a calm chat view.

  • NewOnline updates: PaneScale checks the website for new versions. Installers are downloaded and checksum-verified before anything is installed — and only when you click.
  • NewChat view for Claude Code, Codex and Kimi: a readable timeline over the running CLI with model, effort and permissions, images by paste or drag and drop, and Send now while the agent is still working.
  • ImprovedAnswers stream in word by word without flicker, and Codex questions — such as confirming full access — can be answered right in the chat.
  • ImprovedClaude panes load MCP tools on demand again, so new sessions start with far less context and compact less often.
  • ImprovedEarly access: the account menu shows that every feature is unlocked, no sign-in needed. Open-source licences are listed under Settings → About.
  • FixedA cleaner title bar, and the context ring no longer gets stuck after hovering.

PaneScale for macOS

PaneScale now runs on the Mac: one app for Apple silicon and Intel, from macOS 11 Big Sur on.

  • NewDisk image with the usual install: drag PaneScale onto Applications. Signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens without warnings.
  • NewNative window with the macOS traffic lights, a Mac app menu and every shortcut on ⌘ instead of Ctrl. ⌘W no longer closes the whole app with all its panes.
  • NewUpdates from inside the app: checksum-verified, the app in Applications is replaced in place and restarts — the previous version stays if anything goes wrong.
  • ImprovedYour login shell (zsh, bash, fish) is the default terminal, and agents get the same PATH as your shell — CLIs from Homebrew, npm, pnpm, fnm or nvm are found.
  • ImprovedThe Mac stays awake while agents work, files open selected in Finder, and dictation asks for the microphone only when you use it.

PaneScale for Linux

PaneScale now runs on Linux x86_64 — Ubuntu 22.04 and newer, Debian 12, Fedora, openSUSE and Arch.

  • NewAn installer with a short wizard, just like on Windows: installs for your user, adds an app menu entry, an optional desktop shortcut and the panescale command. It adds WebKitGTK if it’s missing.
  • New.deb and .rpm packages for your package manager.
  • NewOne-click updates from inside the app, checksum-verified, for installs made with the installer.
  • ImprovedClosing a pane ends everything it started, including background processes, and your computer stays awake while agents are running.

PaneScale, now with its own name

The app gets its name and becomes a fully separate Windows application, with its own install folder, data folder and update channel.

  • NewNew name and identity: PaneScale, with the four-pane logo in the title bar, Start menu and installer.
  • NewInstalled builds and development builds are now completely separate processes with separate data, so they can never get mixed up.
  • ImprovedUpdates come from a dedicated update folder and show up as an Update badge in the title bar.
  • ImprovedExisting data from earlier builds is carried over automatically on first start.

A grid you can shape, and an installer

The first release with a real Windows installer — and the biggest update to the Code mode so far.

  • NewWindows installer for the current user, no administrator rights needed.
  • NewOne-click updates: checksum-verified, silent, restart in seconds.
  • NewDrag columns, rows, crossings and the dock to any size. Double-click a seam or press Home to even them out; arrow keys work too. The shape is saved per workspace and layout.
  • NewPre-warmed sessions: every free grid cell keeps a started session waiting at low priority, trimmed after 25 seconds and handed over instantly.
  • NewStart options per agent: effort level and a bypass mode that skips permission prompts — clearly marked in the pane header.
  • NewPoint & Fix: click an element in the browser pane, find its source, fix it in a worktree copy, quick-check and apply with undo.
  • NewVideo Studio (Labs): timeline, scene code, seven templates, transitions, captions with a readability check, pre-export checks and WebM export.
  • ImprovedExpensive operations — Git, processes, file scans, CLI discovery — run in the background so the window never stutters.
  • ImprovedTerminal output is batched and streamed per pane; rendering happens once per frame and only on change.
  • ImprovedNew logo: a pinwheel of four panes around a glowing core.

Agents that work while you don’t

The first complete version: every mode, the orchestration features and the safety net underneath them.

  • NewOvernight Autopilot: a queue with preflight, attempts in worktrees, a backup agent, limits and a frozen morning report.
  • NewWorkflow Studio: brief, recipes, seven step types, inspector, approvals and runs with a full record.
  • NewAgent mode: teammates with tabs, task modes, memory and handoff.
  • NewSettings with 14 sections, the tasks board, routines, the hub and Voice.
  • FixedFixed a deadlock and several issues with hook-based status detection.
