Tasks board

A board for agent work — start a card on Claude Code or Codex, review the result with diff and undo, send it back with a note, or queue it for tonight.

Open the board with Ctrl+T, from More → Tasks, or say “open tasks”. It collects the work you plan to give to agents — and runs it: every card can be started on an agent directly from the board, and the board always shows what is really happening to it.

The board

ColumnMeaning
BacklogPlanned work, waiting to be started
RunningAn agent is working on it right now
ReviewThe run finished — your turn to look
DoneYou reviewed and approved it
FailedThe run failed, was stopped, or is blocked

At the top, a summary says how many cards need you — those in Review and Failed — and how many runs are active. Switch between this project and All projects; with all projects, every card shows which project it belongs to. Show archive brings archived cards back into view.

A card shows its title, labels, a moon if it is marked for tonight, and — while it runs — what the agent is doing right now and for how long. After a run, the first line of the agent’s summary appears on the card.

Create a card

Click Add task (or + on the Backlog column):

FieldMeaning
TitleWhat should be done
DescriptionDetails and acceptance criteria — the clearer, the easier the result is to check
LabelsComma-separated, for your own overview
ProjectWhere the agent works
Assigned agentClaude Code or Codex
Mark for tonightPuts it into the Overnight Autopilot queue

Run a card

Click Start with Claude Code (or Codex) on a backlog card — or drag it to Running. PaneScale then:

  1. creates a thread Task: <title> in the project, so the run has a record you can open from Chat,
  2. takes a checkpoint of the project,
  3. runs the agent with edit access and a prompt built from the card: title, description, labels, your note from the last review, and fixed rules — work only in this project folder, keep changes small, run existing checks, never push, publish or deploy, end with a summary of what changed, how it was checked and what is still open,
  4. moves the card to Review when the agent finishes, or to Failed if the run fails.

A notification and a short sound tell you when a card is waiting for review. Stop ends a running card; it moves to Failed as stopped.

A card is only in Running while a run is actually live. If PaneScale closes during a run, the card doesn’t pretend to be busy afterwards.

Review

Click a card to open its details:

  • the description,
  • the result of the last run — the agent’s summary,
  • the run history with a History link to each run’s thread,
  • Changes of the last run: Show diff lists every changed file with its diff, Undo puts the files back to their state before the run — files you changed yourself afterwards are kept, as with every rewind.

Then decide:

ActionWhat happens
Approve & doneThe card moves to Done. The changes stay in your project — commit them in Code mode when you’re ready
Send backAsks What should the next run do differently? and moves the card back to Backlog. The note is part of the next run’s prompt; the card shows whether it has been sent
Try againOn a failed card: starts a new run
ReopenOn a done card: back to Backlog

Drag and drop

Cards can be dragged between columns, with a few rules that keep the board honest:

  • Dragging to Running starts a run — only from Backlog or Failed.
  • Cards reach Review and Failed only through their run.
  • Only a card in Review can be dragged to Done — that is the same as approving it.
  • A running card must be stopped before it can go back to Backlog.

Right-click a card for Edit, Mark for tonight / Remove from tonight, Archive / Restore and Delete. Archived cards are hidden until you tick Show archive.

Import from GitHub

From GitHub lists the open issues of the project’s GitHub repository with your local gh CLI — PaneScale uses your existing sign-in and stores no token of its own. Issues already on the board are marked. Pick the ones you want and click Import for tonight: they become cards marked for tonight.

Tonight

Cards marked for tonight are preselected when you add tasks from the board in the Overnight Autopilot. Autopilot in the board header takes you there. You can also say “tonight update the readme” to Voice.
